A total of 17 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Gonzales County per Region 8 reports distributed by County Judge Patrick C. Davis.

Seven new cases were reported on Thursday, with 10 reported on Wednesday. These are significant decreases in reported cases compared to Monday and Tuesday, wherein a total of 30 cases were reported, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services. In the last seven days, 117 cases have been reported. These new cases bring the total number to 625, with 65 of those being active, 554 estimated by the state to be recovered, and six deaths reported.

Given the continued rise in cases of coronavirus in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott weighed in Friday regarding the debate over the opening of schools, saying that the Texas Education Agency’s guidelines for reopening will remain the same. While schools have the authority to decide to reopen later in the year than usual, they are still required to comply with the required number of days of instruction.
