A.J. Satberry

A.J. Satberry, age 66, lost his battle to cancer on Jan. 22. A.J. was born Sept. 16, 1952 in Gonzales to the late Willie and Freddie B. (Harvey) Satberry.

A.J. was a man of few words but always there to listen. He earned his nickname “Juice” in high school as a Gonzales Apache. A.J. would forego the scholarships to play football opting to go to the United States Marine Corps instead where he served our country proudly. He loved to cook, and family and friends alike will miss his Thanksgiving Day meals.

Survivors are his wife, Beatrice G. Satberry of Yoakum; brothers, Arthur Lee Satberry of Gonzales and John Satberry of Austin; sister, Mary Luke of San Antonio; daughters, Christian Satberry, Kim Spears and Keesha Hodges; sons, AJ Satberry Jr. and Lynn Spears; a host of family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Brianna Leigh Satberry and grandchildren, Blossom Eve Lugo and Jett Allen Lugo; brother, Willie Satberry Jr.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 25 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home with funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Billy Ray Washington officiating. Burial to follow at Guadalupe Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Oscar Garcia, Jonathan Lugo, Coleman Luke, George Garcia, Richard Garcia and Louis Garcia.
