Alfred Knolle “Trey” Hermann III, 53 of Gonzales passed away Wednesday, March 14. Trey was born Feb. 20, 1965 in Gonzales to Alfred Knolle Hermann Jr. and Alice Fay Parsley Hermann.

Trey was a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E . #2413, the Regulardores Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and he was a lifelong member of the Gonzales First Baptist Church. Trey had served as a volunteer for the Gonzales Volunteer Fire Department and had served as a peace officer for Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office, Gonzales Police Department and the Shiner Police Department. He had earned his Master Peace Officer License of which he was very proud.

Trey grew up in Gonzales and attended Gonzales schools. He graduated from Gonzales High School with the Class of 1984. Trey was a not unlike most teenagers, he was full of vim and vigor. When kids went looking for fun, they usually found Trey was already there. It is very possible that after shedding much of the rubber from his tires on the streets and by-ways of Gonzales County that Trey found the old adage “If you can’t beat them, join them” to be a valid argument to study Law Enforcement at Victoria College. For 29 years Trey honorably worked as a peace officer and he always treated those he encountered in the field as an equal member of society unless they gave him reason not to.

Trey never met a stranger. There were not many places he could go where he didn’t know somebody and if that place did exist it wasn’t long before he made lasting friends. He loved riding his Harley and nothing was better than Trey and his wife Diane saddling up on their bikes riding to a motorcycle rally. He enjoyed golfing and shooting a few games of pool with friends or just relaxing at deer camp. Trey relished the occasional fishing trip to the coast but the best of times always came back to family.

Trey was a persistent man if he was anything. He pursued a relationship with his eventual wife Diane for 10 years before she finally agreed to marry him, well worth the wait in Trey’s estimation. Trey reveled in the love of his wife, three daughters, a step-son and a grandson he adored. He was so very proud of all of them and them of him. Trey had a huge heart and an abundance of love for his family. He treasured vacations and holidays with his family. He was his wife’s world and he was humbled by the wealth of love he received from his children. Above all, family was Trey’s single motivating factor to cherish each breath of the life God bestowed upon him. Trey had so much to live for and look forward to. He was ever so willing to fight with all his might to live and be ever present in the memories of his family’s lives yet unwritten. Even good men, heroes and champions pass away, but love, love lives on forever. So too will Trey live forever, in the loving hearts and memories of his family and all those who knew him well.

Trey Hermann is survived by his adoring family, wife, Diane Marie Hermann of Gonzales, his mother and father, Alice and Alfred K. “Bubba” Hermann of Wrightsboro, daughters, Jordan Paige Hermann, Tyler Leigh Hermann both of San Antonio, Sydney Jon Hermann of Gonzales, step-son, Clay Herman and wife Paige of Shiner, grandson, Jace Wayne Herman of Shiner, mother and father-in-law, Carolyn and Daniel Malik of Shiner, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Pam Malik, nieces, Danielle and Dana Mali all of Victoria and a host of fellow peace officers and friends.
