Alice Marie Garner

Alice Marie Garner "Nan," 89, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 13, 2020. She was surrounded by her loving family and the Holy Spirit.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband; James Howard Garner, son; James "Bubba" Garner, son in law; Jimmy Mayfield, brothers, sister and parents. She is survived by her daughters; Cindy Mayfield and companion Howard Haase of Gonzales and Brenda Davidson of Austin, sister and brother-in-law;  Edna and Mickey Peel of Austin, grandchildren; Bryan and Jennifer Mayfield, Crystal and Mark Wied, Cory and Stephanie Mayfield, Matthew Garner and Kendra and Lisetta Camarillo, great-grandchildren; Brianna Manning Mayfield, Nathan Mayfield, Trevor Mayfield, Alexis Garner Underbrink, Brayden Garner, Meelah Trevino, Phantazia Herrera, Dylan Herrera, Favian Herrera and Angel "Peewee" Herrera.

Alice was born Sept. 3, 1931 along the river in New Braunfels, Texas to James Warren Johnson and Georgia Belle Griffin Johnson. At 19 Alice married the love of her life, Howard "Sug" Garner. The couple started their family in Corpus Christi, TX. In the sixties they made their final move and made Gonzales, TX their home.

Alice was a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother to all. To know Alice was to love her. She accepted everyone. Flaws and all. Once in her family, always in her family. Her love knew no bounds.  She loved dancing, country music, The Young and the Restless, Dallas Cowboys and anytime that she got to spend with her family. Alice was the greatest listener and most dependable person there was. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. We love you Nan!

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct.17, 2020 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Lammers officiating. Interment will follow in Gonzales Memorial Park. Pallbearers:  Bryan, Cory, Matt, Nathan and Trevor Mayfield and Mark Weid. Honorary pallbearers: Crystal Weid and Kendra Camarillo. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Due to current CDC, State and local mandates, protective measures regarding social distancing, limited attendance capacity, and use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation, chapel service and graveside burial rite.  Those remotely symptomatic of COVID-19 are politely asked not to attend.  Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
