Alma Beatrice Mikesh, 90, of Gonzales, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016.  She was born March 12, 1926 in Gonzales County to Malcolm Doss Robinson and Ella Mae Moseley Robinson.  “Beatrice” as she was popularly known, married Ervin Mikesh after a two week, “love at first sight” whirlwind courtship on July 30, 1945.  This was a marriage that ended each and every day with a mutual “I love you” and lasted for 56 beautiful years before Ervin passed away on November 9, 2001.

Beatrice grew up in the Diamond Grove area of Gonzales County.  This was at the cusp of the Great Depression.  She knew well the hardships and sadness of the time, yet she gained strength to carry on through and with her large and loving family that pulled together to overcome the toughest of times.   She helped raise her younger brother and sister and never shied away from her share of the chores.  She loved caring for the family’s horses and enjoyed going to dances and listening to music.  She had worked at local pharmacy for a period of time before marrying Ervin.  Beatrice was a homemaker and she took that title to the highest of levels.  She was an excellent seamstress and frequently sewed magnificent dresses for her daughters, dresses far superior to what could be purchased in a store.  She was a talented cook with a legendary recipe for cornbread dressing that is lovingly held secret by her family today.  Memories of her chicken and rice and hot rolls still call her family to the memories of the heartwarming smells and flavors always found at home, in Beatrice’s kitchen.

Beatrice was an avid reader and she enjoyed studying scripture from her bible. She had a strong faith, the kind of faith that freely put her trust in God and where she believed that God had a plan for us all and that ours was not to question why but to trust all things happen for a reason.   She found joy in gardening, craft work such as cross-stitching and needle point.  But her greatest joy was her family; she lived for her family, sacrificed for her family and delighted in her grandchildren who will forever remember their “Mamoo” with the greatest of love.

Alma Beatrice Robinson Mikesh is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Tom Daniel, Patricia Elaine and Donnie Tenberg, Karen Rebecca and Chris Rasmussen, son and daughter-in-law, Michael Ervin and Jackie Mikesh, all of Gonzales, sister, Elsie Mae Robinson of Smiley, brothers and a sister-in-law, George Sydney and Judy Robinson of Hempstead, Claude Edward Robinson of Arden, N.C., grandchildren, Kellie Staton and husband Roy , Jeffrey Daniel, Matthew Tenberg and wife Sarah, John Daniel, Christopher Rasmussen, Blake Mikesh and wife Elizabeth, Joshua Daniel and wife Ashley, Eric Rasmussen and wife Jenna, great-grandchildren, Roy Adam Staton, Read Allen Staton, Vanessa Renee Daniel, Reagen Lynn Daniel, Easton Lane Daniel, Hayley Mae Daniel and Olivia Leigh Tenberg.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Charlotte Nelson, Joy Mikesh and Doris Hoffman, brothers, Malcolm Doss Robinson, Jr., and Warren Wesley Robinson.
