An open letter to all Christian Voters

Posted

In a few months, the citizens of this country face the daunting responsibility of selecting those who will be making the decisions that will directly affect the lifestyles of our children and grandchildren. It is critical for us to make our selections on the basis of who will do the best thing for those will come after us rather than to simply vote a certain way because “that is how our family has always voted.” The officials we elect will make choices that determine what America will become in the years ahead.

Many years ago, God was forming a new nation out of a group of people who had been slaves for nearly 400 years. He had selected a temporary leader of those people, but this is the message God sent to this temporary leader: “Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth hating covetousness; and place such over the to be rulers …” Exodus 18:21. It is essential that we remember this admonition from the Lord.

We must lay aside all party affiliations of any kind and select leaders based on their integrity before God rather than the words they speak or the political tag they wear. Unfortunately, our process of elimination has greatly reduced our ability to choose such leaders. If we stay home and do not vote, we fail to be the responsible citizens we need to be. Our only other option is to look at what each candidate represents. That is shown by the platform of the party of their affiliation. In other words, we must vote for a party platform, not for a particular candidate. Take a careful look at the platforms of both parties before deciding how to cast your vote this November. Vote for the candidates whose party platform most closely matches what you believe.

Party platforms can be found by asking the chairmen of the political parties for them or, if you have access to a computer, by going online and typing in “platform” followed by the name of the major parties. Carefully read these platforms then decide which one comes closest to what you believe. Based on who we have to choose from in the coming election, this is the only way we can ensure we are voting for righteousness. May God help us all make the right choices.
