Apache duo qualify for state golf tournament

CORPUS CHRISTI — The golf season isn’t quite over for the Gonzales Apaches.

Competing as individual medalists, sophomores Mason Richter and Kiley Allen traveled to Corpus Christi for the UIL Region IV-4A golf meet for a chance at the state meet. Richter competed at the Lozana Golf Course for the boys meet, placing second overall with a total of 151 strokes (70 on Day 1, 81 on Day 2). He was bested by Needville’s Kenny Hrncir who had a total of 150 strokes.

Meanwhile Allen competed at the Oso Golf Course for the girls meet, placing third overall after losing a three-hole playoff against Fredericksburg’s Allison James, with a total of 165 strokes (82 on Day 1, 83 on Day 2). Taking first was Wimberley’s Faith Kilgore with 145 strokes.

With those top scores, both Apache golfers have qualified for the state meet.

This year will be Richter’s second time in as many years at the UIL Class 4A golf tournament. He’s set to compete at the Apple Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay, Marble Falls from May 14-15.

Allen will make her state-tournament debut, competing in the UIL Class 4A golf meet at Slick Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay, Marble Falls from May 21-22.
