Apache seniors named offensive, defensive district MVPs

After a second place finish in District 15-4ADI, many Gonzales Apache players found themselves on the all-district list, including three seniors who earned superlatives.

Quarterback Heath Henke and defensive lineman Diego Diaz de Leon were named offensive and defensive MVP, respectively. Arbreyon Dora, another senior, was named the utility player of the year in the district. Diaz de Leon was a unanimous vote.

Named to the first-team all-district offense were running back Dillen Ramos (unanimous selection), fullback Diaz de Leon (unanimous), center Nico Anzuldua, guard Ryan Gomez, tackle Coby Pruett (unanimous) and punter Adrian Rodriguez (unanimous). Named to the second team were running back Jared Cook, tight end Frank Benes, guard Brett Jahns and tackle Christian Almaguer.

Named to the first-team all-district defense were defensive tackle Ivan Reyna, defensive end Lion Williamson (unanimous), inside linebacker Zachary Box (unanimous), cornerback Adrian Rodriguez and kicker Daniel Cruz (unanimous). Named to the second team were defensive end Desmond Bolden, inside linebacker Cesar Matamoros, outside linebacker Derrick Garza, cornerback Adrian Dilworth and safety Jeremiah Hastings.

Branden Barfield, Keisey Ramirez, Silvano Reyes and Coby Rodriguez were honorably mentioned.

The Gonzales Apaches finished their season 8-3 overall, 3-1 in district behind Beeville (10-0, 4-0).
