Posted

With the soccer season ending prematurely, talks of whether this talented Gonzales Apaches boys team could reach the state championship will remain a mystery. Despite the unfortunate cancelation of the spring sports due to COVID-19, many Apache players were able to win multiple district awards for their tremendous play in District 29-4A.

Named overall MVP of District 29-4A was Daniel Cruz. Other MVP awards include co-MVP midfielder Carlos Mendoza, co-MVP goalkeeper Luis Hernandez and MVP defender Jorge Cervantes.

Named to the first-team all-district were Antonio Hernandez, Adrian Rodriguez, Ivan Reyna, Richard Grim and Sebastian Matamoros.

Named to the second team were Enrique Velasquez, Luis Hernandez and Jonathan Tejeda.

Jose Velasquez, Fernando Orduna, Brian Duenez, Giovanni Mata, Esteban Govea and Sergio Velasquez were honorably mentioned.

“It was awesome while it lasted guys,” then head coach Greg Ramirez said of the season. “I’m very proud of each and every one of y’all.”

An announcement on who will be the new head coach is expected to come in the near future.
