Apaches hosting basketball tournament

GONZALES — The Gonzales Apaches are in the middle of a three-day tournament, with a total of 15 teams participating, including the Apaches varsity and junior varsity teams.

The tournament comes days after taking a 101-31 loss at home against the South San Antonio Bobcats.

The Apaches varsity team will be placed in Pool A along with The Episcopal School of Texas (TMI) and Woodsboro. Teams scheduled include:

Gonzales opened pool play Thursday at 5 p.m. vs. TMI at the main gym. Gonzales JV played against San Marcos Home School at 7 p.m. The varsity played their second pool game at 8 p.m. All results were unavailable before press time.

The Waelder Wildcats are also in the tournament, playing their pool games Thursday as well. They opened with a game against Cuero at 5 p.m. and later played East Bernard at 7 p.m. Results were unavailable before press time.

Tonight, Gonzales JV will play Mathis in the main gym at 7 p.m. to finish out their pool play.

After pool play, teams will be seeded based on record, point spread (no greater than 20) and points allowed. In the event of a tie after those scenarios, a coin flip between contending teams will determine seeding.

The gold bracket will host teams placed 1-4. Silver bracket teams are 5-8, bronze bracket teams are 9-12 and the remaining three teams will play in a round-robin to finish out their tournament play.
