Apaches Junior High end season with split decisions

The junior high football teams took on Smithville, with just one team taking a close loss while the other two won their bouts.

The 7th grade "A" team lost to Smithville 30-22. Both teams were undefeated coming into the last game. The game was tied until the last minute. Carlos Verastegui scored the first two touchdowns for the Apaches on a 36-yard run and a five-yard run. Joe Canales scored the last touchdown on a four-yard run. Offensive player of the game was Carlos Verastegui. The defensive player of the game was Russell Thomas. The team finished with an overall 7-1 record.

The 8th grade "B" team beat Smithville 18-0. Kyle Ellison scored the first touchdown of the game with a 46-yard run. Avery Aeriola threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Tejeda. Wesley Manuel score the last touchdown for the Apaches on a four-yard run. Offensive players of the game were Kyle Ellison, Avery Aeriola, Jonathan Tejeda, and Wesley Manuel. The defensive player of the game was Wesley Manuel. The team finished with a 4-3 overall record.

The 8th grade “A” team ended their season as undefeated district champs, beating Smithville 31-0. Breck Eleby scored on a 93-yard touchdown pass from Brett Brietschopf. Eleby also scored on a 61-yard interception return. Cesar Matamoros had three powerful touchdown runs (15 yards, 35 yards and 63 yards). Luis Garcia had his second successful extra point kick of the season. Offensive player of the game was Matamoros. Defensive player of the game was Jose Ortega. The 8A team ended with a 7-2 overall record and a 5-0 district record.
