Apaches track athletes qualify for area meet

WIMBERLEY — The Gonzales Apaches track and field teams traveled to Wimberley last Wednesday and Thursday at Texas Stadium to compete in the UIL District 4A-27 championships as multiple athletes from both teams have advanced to area.

On the girls’ side, head coach Cully Doyle noted that of the 17 events the Lady Apaches competed in, Gonzales will be represented in 14 of those events in the area round.

Taking top six slots in the district meet are:

• 100-meter run: Shania Lloyd, 13.25 seconds, second
• 400-meter run: Tyla Dalton, 1:03.16, third
• 800-meter run: Haley Garza, 2:25.14, first
• 1600-meter run: Haley Garza, 5:32.71, first; Veronica Moreno, 5:37.01, third
• 3200-meter run: Romy Cantu, 12:49.95, fourth; Veronica Moreno, 13:00.90, fifth
• 100-meter hurdles: Josie Stowers, 17.89 seconds, fifth
• 300-meter hurdles: Madison Blundell, 48.93 seconds, second; Rachel Staggs, 51.90, third
• 4x100-meter relay: Alexis Ramirez, Skylar Siptak, Tyla Daltan and Shania Lloyd, 52.05, fourth
• 4x200-meter relay: Rachel Staggs, Jacey Henrichs, Skylar Siptak and Johnna Dalton, 1:56.17, fourth
• 4x400-meter relay: Johnna Dalton, Tyla Dalton, Haley Garza and Veronica Moreno, 4:16.45, third
• Shot Put: Devon Williams, 34-3 ¾, first; Aukievah Fryer, 30-0 ¼, fifth; Analise Longoria, 29-8, sixth
• Discus: Devon Williams, 110-1 ½, first; Hailey Riojas, 92-11 ½, fourth; Alicia Ramirez, 92-8, fifth
• High Jump: Maggie Barnick, 4-10, third; Josie Stowers, 4-8, fifth
• Pole Vault: Jaydin Tatsch, 7-0, sixth
• Long Jump: Tyla Dalton, 17-0 ¾, first; Johnna Dalton, 15-8 ¾, sixth
• Triple Jump: Johnna Dalton, 33-8 ½, second, Tyla Dalton, 32-5 ¼, third

The Lady Apaches took third as a team with a total of 150 points behind Wimberley with 205 and La Vernia with 151.

Meanwhile the boys’ team placed fourth behind Wimberley, Navarro and La Vernia. Top six athletes were:

• 100-meter run: Alex Ortiz, 11.85, fourth
• 200-meter run: Trevion McNeil, 23.77, sixth
• 400-meter run: Marvin Cardoza, 55.08, fifth
• 1600-meter run: Antonio Hernandez-Sanches, 4:54.52, fourth

• 110-meter hurdles: Juan Jordan, 16.61, fifth
• 4x100-meter relay: Josh Branch, Alex Ortiz, James Martinez and Aaron Hunt, 44.53, third
• 4x200-meter relay: Marvin Cardoza, James Martinez, Seth Gibson and Trevion McNeil, 1:38.85, fourth
