Arnold Lee Baker, 66, of Gonzales, rode through God’s heavenly gates on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. He was born on September 8, 1953, to Emmet J. and Irene Baker, Sr., being one of five children. His entire family joined the First Lutheran Church of Gonzales in July 1968. He grew up in the Hamon community helping his family with their farming livelihood, which included raising chickens, picking cotton, pulling corn, and raising cattle. He graduated from Gonzales High School in 1972, being named “Friendliest” of his class.

During his high school years, he worked with Calvin Baker on his pig farm and worked at Boysen’s Food Market. After graduation, he worked at Harrell Cattle Company, did carpentry for M&H Construction, and did ranch work in Goliad with his Uncle Walter.  But ultimately Lee wanted to be back in the Gonzales area.

In June of 1974, he met the love of his life, Janet Lynn Hagens, at a dance in Yoakum. They married on August 2, 1975. They were blessed with three children, Kimberlee, Bradley, and Holly. For 30 years, Lee worked as Ranch Manager at Huebner Ranch and raised his family there.

Lee was a hard worker, whose work ethic was well known. He was a one-of-a-kind-cowboy and well respected by all who knew him. He had a STRONG passion for the cattle business, whether it was tending to his own herds or that of others.  He was always willing to help anyone who asked for his help with their cattle operations. And for the past several years, he enjoyed helping many kids with their commercial heifer stock show projects in Gonzales and surrounding counties.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 45 years, Janet Lynn Baker, daughters, Kimberlee Brown (Tinker) and Holly Danz (Bradley) and son, Bradley Baker (Shannon). Six grandchildren, Kayla Autrey (Dillon), Madelynn Brown (Cole Hendershot), Kalli Baker, Hagen Brown, Brody Danz, and Bryce Danz.  One great-grandchild Luke Autrey.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 9, 2020, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seydler Hill Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Friday, July 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Ildiko Rigney officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Baker, Rusty Clampit, Keith Elstner, Mark Hagen, Johnie Halliburton, and Mike Kuck.
