Augie Meyers to perform at Craft Beer and Wine Festival

The directors of the Gonzales Inquirer Come and Taste It Craft Beer and Wine Festival are proud to announce that country music legend and pop superstar Augie Meyers will be the headliner of the third annual festival.

This year’s festival, which is scheduled for Friday night April 24 and Saturday afternoon and evening April 25, promises to be the biggest and best ever—especially with all of the diverse and talented music coming to town.

Highlighting this year’s event is Grammy Award winner Meyers, who won a Grammy with the Texas Tornadoes featuring Freddy Fender, Doug Sahm, Flaco Jimenez and Meyers. In the 1960s, Meyer performed with the Sir Douglas Quintet, one of the first American bands to sport long hair like the Beatles. Their trademark hits Mendocino and She’s About A Mover were huge hits in America and overseas. Meyers trademark music is country, Tex-Mex, and Texas Blues. Meyers played at the inaugurals of President William Jefferson Clinton and Texas Governor Ann Richardson.

“Augie’s my man,” said his friend and legend Bob Dylan. “Seriously though, he’s the shining example of a musician.”

Sponsored by Shiner Beer out of Shiner, Texas and Hartman Distributing out of Victoria, the Gonzales Inquirer Come and Taste It Craft Beer Festival will have a slightly different format for 2020.

The VIP night will take place again on Friday, April 24 with a taste of Gonzales, all the Shiner beer line, Coors products and wine from a couple of different vineyards. On Friday night, the event will run from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Opening this year’s festival musically are the Pilgrim Opry New Heirs Band featuring old time country opry music. The band will have two fiddles, a steel guitar, drums and at least three guitars as they perform the music of Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Paycheck, George Jones, Buck Owens and all the country legends. After the Pilgrim Opry band performs, Jason Patten and LEDFOOT from east Texas will perform some acoustic music and Texas Blues in the Stevie Ray Vaughn style.

For the first time ever, there will be five different music acts over the two days, highlighted by the legendary Augie Meyers on Saturday night. On Saturday, the festival will open for the first time ever at 4 p.m. A corn hole tournament will be held and rumors of a surprise event are swirling. Gabe Gallardo is bringing his four-piece band to the main stage at 5 p.m. Following Gallardo’s band at 7 p.m. will be Austin recording artist Bethany Becker Band who will bring her high energy act to the David Stewart Trucking main stage. Finally, the headliner act for the festival will be Augie Meyers who is in the Texas Music Hall of Fame and had the Album of the Year in 1984.

“I’m really excited about the line-up we’ve put together for this year,” said Terry Fitzwater, organizer of the festival. “For the first time we are bringing a Grammy Award winner, Hall of Famer and friend of Bob Dylan to Gonzales in Augie Meyer.

“Plus, this is the first time we’ve ever had five acts play at the event. There will be something for everyone featuring old-time country, Texas Blues, modern country, classic rock and of course the legendary music of Augie Meyers.”

Tickets are now on sale online and can be purchased at the offices of the Gonzales Inquirer. Tickets for the exclusive two-day VIP pass are still $50 plus tax, and the single-day Saturday pass is still $25 plus tax.
