August "Gus" Rudolph Haase

August "Gus" Rudolph Haase, 96, left on his final journey home on Dec. 29, 2019. He was born in Moulton, Texas, Jan. 27, 1923, to his William Kurl Haase and Friederika Alma Krause. He is the youngest son of seven children. Gus and two of his brothers, William and Victor, all served in World War II and came home safe.

PFC August R. Haase served in the United States Army infantry from March 1943 to March 1946 in the Atlantic & Pacific. Gus was a farm boy from Hallettsville, and he volunteered his services to our country after contract work with Douglas Air Force out of California to build military aircraft. He was military police in Japan. He worked at Kelly Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic. He also had an assisted living facility in Hallettsville. After he retired, he joined the color guard in Hallettsville in until 2014. Gus loves to dance to country music and polka waltzes to Charles & the Fabulous 4 and The Red Ravens.

Gus is survived by: his wife Dollie Haase; six kids, four daughters (Linda & husband Donnie, Margaret & husband Allen, Penny & husband Jerry, and Lois Willson), and two sons (Grey & wife Jennie and Wesley O'Neal); sister Alma Genzer; 17 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Gus was a wonderful man with a kind heart. He will be very missed but never forgotten.

Funeral Service: 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at Kubena Funeral Home; with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Officiant: Pastor Marvin Miles.
