Bobbie Lee “Bob” Campion, 85, of Harwood, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8. He was born November 18, 1931 in Waelder the son of Owen L. and Esther Lee Barron Campion.

He was a member of the 1949 graduating class at Waelder High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955. He married Gladys Tieken on April 1, 1954 in Gonzales. He worked for Palmer Construction as a heavy equipment operator. He later worked at GVEC as a lineman and worked his way up to the position of Power Use Advisor.

He will be remembered as the Radio Trading Post announcer, a show on KCTI to buy, sell or trade, for over 20 years. He raised hogs, cattle and chickens all of his life. He was involved with the Saturn Community Association, the Hermann Sons Lodge, Young Farmers, Lutheran Brotherhood, the Water Board Cooperation, Gonzales GADC and the GVEC Credit Union Board. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

He was very much a family man, he loved teaching his kids and grandkids how to hunt and skin a deer and take care of land and cattle. He would give advice when asked or even when not asked but thought it was needed. After 35 years of service with GVEC he retired and traveled with his wife in and out of the United States.

He loved to hunt and fish. Woodworking was also a hobby as well as dancing with his wife Gladys. He loved people, never meeting a stranger, he would start a conversation with anyone he met and help anyone in need. His end of year highlight was to dress up and take on the role as “Santa’s Helper” for kids and the elderly, always bringing a smile and brightening the Christmas season for everyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
