With great sadness, the family of Brian Philip Harris announces his passing on Sunday, June 17. Brian was 39 years old, born Nov. 9, 1978 in Freeport, Texas. A service in his memory was held in Brazoria, Texas on June 23.

Brian grew up and attended school in Gonzales before moving to the Freeport area. In his earlier years, he was baptized at and attended Memorial Heights Baptist Church. Most recently, he attended Sovereign Grace Fellowship in Brazoria where he will be warmly remembered by the many friends he made there.

He came back to Gonzales from time to time and with almost every visit, he made a point of driving to one of his favorite places, the scenic overlook at Palmetto State Park in Ottine. Another favorite stop was going to the family farm in Harwood, especially if barbecue was being cooked up by one of his uncles. In his own right, Brian had the reputation of being an excellent cook himself.

He loved to fish, even if sometimes it was only to catch and release. He liked simple things in life like tending to his small garden, mowing his lawn and then taking the time to mow his neighbor’s too. He loved spending time with his stepchildren, including watching movies with Logan. Brian was artistically and musically inclined – he sketched, painted and he played the guitar. One of his pleasures was playing his guitar and singing worship music with his family. He was a compassionate and caring person, often calling to check on friends and praying for them with deep affection and concern. With a profound interest and love for theology, Brian enjoyed reading and listening to works by theologians like John MacArthur. He frequently sought out people to discuss theology truths and his library of books were a great joy to him.

Brian spent time working on repairing severely damaged homes in the Houston area with Habitat for Humanity after Hurricane Harvey. He worked hard to make improvements to his own coastal home in Lake Jackson, too, helping his father-in-law with the remodeling. He was also attending Brazosport College.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Emily; his mother, Paula DuBose of Gonzales; grandmother, Elva Lee Harris of Angleton; sister, Shannon Baron; daughter, Abigail; stepson, Logan; stepdaughter, Jillian. He is also remembered by his niece, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Brian was preceded in death by his father Ronnie Harris, both grandfathers and his maternal grandmother.
