Cardinals begin district play

SHINER — Shiner St. Paul (2-2) is set to take on the Austin Brentwood Christian Bears (3-1) to begin district play this season. Last week’s loss against Austin Hyde Park can be attributed to assignment mistakes, so the Cardinals are hoping to clean that up to get tonight’s win.

“We did things that we had not been doing the last three games,” St. Paul’s head coach Jake Wachsmuth noted.

Wachsmuth mentioned that though Hyde Park definitely deserved the win, the Cardinals didn’t do themselves any favors with the amount of mistakes made on both sides of the ball.

Tonight, they take on an Austin Brentwood team that plays spread on offense and stacks the box on defense.

“They’re a spread team and it all goes through their quarterback,” Wachsmuth scouted. “He’s the guy that makes it all go.”

Meanwhile, the Bears’ defense will be showing an eight-man front while playing cover three.

“It really just going to come down to us executing,” he said, “cleaning up turnovers. I think we have an opportunity to do well and score some points.”

“We can’t turn the ball over,” Wachsmuth continued, “the other games that we’ve won we were winning the turnover ball. We got to do everything we can the best way we can.”

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight in Shiner.
