Cardinals in search of first win in final non-district test

SHINER — Shiner St. Paul remains winless headed into their last non-district game of the season. The Cardinals are wanting to right the ship and have played better, but now the coaching staff is looking for the team to find a way to win.

“Obviously we want to do things better,” Head Coach Jake Wachsmuth said. “But it’s very important we find a way to win. We’ve had games this year where we’ve done some good things, obviously we made mistakes, we played good people. Just got to find a way to win.”

This week they take on Brentwood Christian who runs an offense out the shotgun, though they’re not necessarily a spread team.

They return quarterback Blake Benton (7) while losing two running backs from last season, although Sam Orick (33) has played well this season.

The team tends to run out of a two or three-back formation.

Defensively, the Bears run a 4-3, with cover two behind it.

The Cardinals’ health is getting better, though now is the time that the coaching staff hopes the team can make that next step in progression and get into district with some momentum.

Kickoff is set at 7:30 p.m.
