SHINER ST. PAUL

Cardinals to take on unbeaten Weimar

Posted

After winning 42-35 against Cypress Christian, the Shiner St. Paul Cardinals (3-1) head into this Friday’s game against another team that’s put many points on the scoreboard.

This week, the Cardinals travel to Weimar (4-0) to take on a Wildcats team that’s averaged 39.5 points per game. The team is expected to be fast, with senior running back Ravon’dre Wicks leading the way. Wachsmuth noted that the team returns a lot of skill position players. For the Cardinals to limit Weimar’s athleticism, the defense needs to get to the quarterback so that he’s forced to throw quickly, as they did in last week’s game.

The Cardinals offense expects to see a lot of eight-man fronts from the Wildcats, with Weimar moving their athletes around to create whatever confusion they can.

Wachsmuth believes the team has to be “more consistent” when it comes to penalties, especially on offense. Last week the Cardinals were penalized seven times.

“There’s just plays that we’re kind of just missing on,” he said.

The head coach did note that the team is getting closer to where they need to be when it comes to technique.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
