Cedillo nominated for Tax Assessor/Collector of the Year award

You will have to excuse Gonzales County Tax Assessor/Collector Crystal Cedillo for feeling a little proud these days.

A few weeks ago at the annual state tax assessor meeting in Austin, Cedillo was nominated as a candidate for Texas Tax Assessor/Collector of the Year. Cedillo was nominated by two of her peers from DeWitt and Lee counties at the groups meeting in Austin, and then was chosen over other regional candidates to vie for the state title in Waco in November.

“I was completely surprised and honored when they voted for me,” Cedillo said. “I was just about to go in and teach a class at our annual meeting when the awards committee told me I had been elected by my fellow tax assessors from this region. I was so surprised and honored that I all I could say was ‘Thank you so much.’”

Cedillo has worked in the tax assessor’s office for almost 20 years, and was named chief deputy about 10 years ago. Following the retirement of her mentor, Gonzales County Tax Assessor Norma Jean DuBose, Cedillo ran unopposed for the position and won in the last two elections.

“I am so honored to hold this position, and I only hope that l can live up to the expectations and standards set by Norma Jean and all the people of Gonzales County,” Cedillo said.

There are eight other regional nominees for the title of Texas State Tax Assessor/Collector of the Year besides Cedillo. The final nine candidates will be introduced at a meeting in Waco in November, where the winner will be announced.

“I am so honored and grateful to just be nominated with these other really qualified candidates,” Cedillo said. “It is with heartfelt thanks and gratitude that I want to say thank you to all who wrote nominating letters for me and who voted for me. I am so honored I can’t find just one word to put it all into perspective.

“However, I do want to say thanks to all of the seven wonderful employees who work here with me. Without them and their support and outstanding work I could never even hope to be nominated.”
