Certain fireworks prohibited in county

Posted

Commissioners voted Monday to restrict certain kinds of fireworks in unincorporated areas of Gonzales County.

Due to drought conditions in the area as determined by the Texas Forest Service, commissioners decided to act. The restrictions dictate that a person “may not sell, detonate, ignite, or in any way use fireworks classified as 'skyrockets with sticks'....or missiles with fins in any portion of the unincorporated areas of Gonzales County.” The order does not prohibit “permissible fireworks.”

A person commits an offense if the person knowingly or intentionally violates the prohibition, which is punishable as a Class C misdemeanor. The order will expire on the date that the Texas Forest Service determines drought conditions no longer exist in the county or July 5, whichever is earlier.
