Christopher Cantu, 53, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Saturday, Aug. 11 at his home.

Funeral mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and will be held on Friday, August 17 at 9:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church in Gonzales, Texas with Father Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at Saint James Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16 at Saint James Catholic Church.

Chris was born on Oct. 8, 1964 in Gonzales, Texas. He was the son of Adam and Elida (Camarillo) Cantu Jr. Chris liked to joke around with family and friends who stopped by for a few drinks and some BBQ. He liked to go fishing and hunting. He enjoyed playing poker and watching the Dallas Cowboys. Chris was a youth spiritual mentor, and a volunteer for various church organizations. He enjoyed the fellowship on the ACTS Retreats. He liked to spend happy hour at Milupita Restaurant. Chris would take his mother for breakfast tacos every Sunday. Chris met Elizabeth Alvarez in December of 1995 and they have been together ever since. He worked at Hexcel in Seguin, Texas for 32 years.

Chris is survived by his mother; Elida Cantu of Gonzales, Texas, his loving wife of 22 years, Elizabeth, one son; Christopher Daniel Cantu of Gonzales, Texas, one daughter; Miranda Alvarez and her husband, Luis Zuniga of Gonzales, Texas, three brothers; Robert Cantu of Gonzales, Texas, David Cantu and his wife, Dede of Gonzales, Texas, Steve Cantu and his wife, Felicia of Gonzales, Texas, three sisters; Lillian Molina and her husband, Cosme of Gonzales, Texas, Sylvia Martinez of Gonzales, Texas, Laura Cantu of Gonzales, Texas, one granddaughter; Lynnsie Zuniga of Gonzales, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; Adam Cantu, and one brother; Daniel Cantu.

Pall bearers for Mr. Cantu will be; Joe Ryan Carrizales, Brandon Carrizales, Luis Zuniga, Colby Cantu, Dylan Cantu, Gabriel Molina, Anthony Molina, and David Adam Cantu. Honorary pallbearers will be; Robert Cantu, David Cantu, Steve Cantu, Joe Carrizales, Henry Alvarez, Daniel Garcia, JoJo Gonzales and Martin Longoria.
