Come and do it all at First Shot

Tractor pull, horseshoes, and barbecue competitions coming soon

Posted

The Come and Take It season officially kicks off on Sept. 14-15 with the annual Gonzales County Area Go-Texan Come and Pull It Tractor Pull, Barbecue Contest and Horseshoe and Washer Tournament. If you can't find something good in that mix, there might not be much hope for you.

The events take place at the J.B. Wells Park arena with the truck and tractor pulls roaring off on Friday, Sept. 14. Start time is 6 p.m. If you're looking to compete, the hook fee is $20. Admission is $10 ages 11 and older.

The HWH pulling sled is a self-propelled sled for antique tractors, modified or hot rod tractors, and four-wheel drive pickups. All classes, all weight divisions on tractors and trucks, will be selective exhibition only.

The washer tourney has a $30 per team entry fee and is located near the action. The first place team will receive a 50 percent payback. The highest ranking team from Gonzales County will have the chance to represent the Go Texan group in Katy in January.

The horseshoe tournament has similar Go Texan guidelines with each team having to provide their own horseshoes. The format is round robin.

The barbecue cook-off requires a $50 entry fee per team. The overall winner from all three meat divisions of the cook-off will win the right to represent Gonzales County at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World Championship BBQ Cook-Off to be held Feb. 21-23.

Camping hookups are available upon request by contacting the J.B. Wells Park office at 830-263-0348 or 830-672-6558. The Gonzales County Area Go Texan Come and Pull It Tractor Pull and BBQ Contest is held in conjunction with First Shot Cookoff, a CASI Chili and IBCA Sanctioned event.
