Following months of deliberation by the Come and Take It Committee, the event has been canceled months ahead of its October date amid coronavirus.

“After much discussion, the ultimate decision is that the cancellation of the celebration is in the best interest of our community, given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the City of Gonzales shared in a Facebook post Tuesday evening.

“As a longstanding tradition in the Gonzales region, the Come and Take It Celebration values the health and safety of all event participants, including attendees, sponsors, non-profit organizations, volunteers, vendors, merchants, entertainers, staff and all those who work diligently to make this three-day event an annual success.”

However, preparations have already begun for Come and Take It 2021, slated to happen from October 1 through 3 of next year. The event is known for its “fun and fellowship,” as well as simulating the local economy.

“This annual event is not just a gathering on the downtown squares, but it is a traditional community event that brings many people together from all over for fun and fellowship, all while boosting the local economy, businesses, and raising funds for several nonprofits who contribute to various community activities and local scholarships,” the Facebook post reads.
