GONZALES — Whether beans, chili, ribs or chicken, there's going to be a whole lot of cooking going on in downtown Gonzales on Saturday, Dec. 3, as cookers come out for the 2016 Main Street Winterfest Cook-Off, sponsored by The Gonzales Inquirer.

Prizes will be given for first, second and third place in each category, but there are rules: No pre-seasoned meat; Cookers must furnish their own supplies; Cook at least two pounds of beans; Pre-cooked beans will not be accepted, however pre-soaked beans (in water) is okay.

Turn-in times are: beans, 1 p.m.; chili, 1:30 p.m.; ribs, 2 p.m.; and chicken, 2:30 p.m. All category entries must be turned in by the head cook.

Winners are set to be announced as soon as the judges finish.

Limited space for the event is available, so only one vehicle per team is allowed to enter the cook-off area to drop off supplies. Set up and start time is 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. and teams may begin cooking as soon as they are checked in at the registration table, which will be located beside the Winterfest Silent Auction table, on Confederate Square.

Each team is responsible for the cleaning up their own cook area, including removal of all trash.

Gonzales Main Street is not responsible for any theft, damages, or accidents.

Entry forms must be sent to, or dropped off at The Gonzales Inquirer, located at 622 St. Paul Street by 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2. Entry fees for pre-registered teams are $10 per cook-off category, or $35 to turn in all four categories. Teams not pre registered will be charged $10 per entry, or $40 for all four categories.
