Coronavirus cases rise sharply in Gonzales County, 31 new reported

A total of 31 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Gonzales County according to a daily report from the office of County Judge Patrick C. Davis.

It is unclear if the rise in reported coronavirus cases in Gonzales County can be attributed to a free testing site which was offered at the J.B. Wells facility Monday. The new case count brings the total number of cases to 364.

As a similar need for increased testing and demand for medical staff rises across the state, U.S. Army Urban Augmentation Medical Task Forces have been activated to “assist the state’s efforts to combat COVID-19,” according to a statement from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. A U.S. Navy Acute Care Team and four U.S. Navy Rapid Rural Response teams are also being placed in different locations across the state to support the medical needs of both new and old COVID-19 patients.

"Our ongoing partnership with the federal government is crucial to meeting the medical needs of Texans as we combat COVID-19 in our communities," Abbott said. "Texas is grateful to the U.S. Department of Defense as well as President Trump and Vice President Pence for providing these additional resources and for working alongside our communities to keep Texans safe and mitigate the spread of this virus."
