During their Monday, April 27 meeting, county commissioners voted to submit an application for Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) for fiscal year 2020 through the state’s Golden Crescent Council of Governments (COG).

County Judge Pat Davis said the state of Texas has provided COG with $346,000 to share with local counties within the local Golden Crescent Region. Gonzales County shares the central region with 18 other counties including Bastrop, Burleson, Caldwell, Calhoun, Comal, DeWitt, Fayette, Goliad, Grimes, Guadalupe, Jackson, Karnes, Lavaca, Lee, Madison, Milam, Victoria and Washington.

“The grant is designed to assist with any counties [in our Golden Crescent Region] that have had expenses [related to] Covid,” Davis said. “

Davis explained that portions of these monies, if approved, will go toward reimbursement of Gonzales County for any Covid-19 related expenses that have incurred since the disease’s recent arrival in our area.

“At this time they’re going to have an application process to submit to get a portion of that, and then they will make a decision on how it goes and where it goes,” he said.

In other business, commissioners:

  • Approved a preliminary plat for A&E Estates Subdivision (Pct. 2)
  • Approved the minutes of the April 13 meeting and special-called April 20 meeting
  • Received monthly reports from the Pct. 4 constable, county auditor, county treasurer  and county clerk
  • Approved a proclamation designating April 26 through May 2 as Soil and Water Stewardship Week.
  • Tabled action on retaining an attorney for opioid litigation to a future meeting
