County Commissioners canvass count

Posted

Like many counties across the state, the Gonzales County Commissioners met on Monday, Nov. 16, to canvass the results of the 2020 General Election.

County Clerk Lona Ackman said the voter turnout for this election was significantly higher than in the March 2020 Primary or July runoff, as well as the 2016 General Election. Deputy Clerk Christy Horstman said 61% of registered voters in the county cast their ballots.

At the beginning of the meeting, Precinct 2 Commissioner Donnie Brzozowski said he was concerned about the safety of holding a Christmas party for county employees in December, to which Judge Patrick C. Davis responded that the party had already been canceled.

In other business:

  • An agreement renewal between the County and BIS Digital was approved for the recording system used in the County Commissioners Courtroom.
  • An engagement letter from Armstrong, Vaughan & Associates, P.C. was approved.
  • Where unused vacation time which went unused by Sheriff’s Office employees was previously approved to be rolled over into 2021 to expire in January 2022, the same provisions were made for County Jail employees. These employees were not previously included in the measure, and a separate action was needed because although they both function within the Sheriff’s Department, they are two separate budgets.
  • Bills to be paid by the County were approved.
