COVID-19 business grants still available

While Gov. Abbott continues to reopen Texas by allowing certain businesses to open at a limited occupancy, the Gonzales Economic Development Corporation (GEDC) continues to push businesses within city limits to apply to their grant program.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the GEDC board has received 51 applications, according to GEDC President Andy Rodriguez. “Applications are still being reviewed by the Review Committee on a weekly basis.”

The board is still taking applications and Rodriguez encourages businesses to submit their application as soon as possible, “so we can get the reviews done in a timely manner.”

“Interim Executive Director Kim Tucker has initiated the second phase of this project,” he added, “which is connecting with the applicants whose grants have been reviewed, to notify them of the need to execute the Performance Agreement and to fill out a W-9 form. Kim will begin the signature process of the Performance Agreements beginning the week of May 18.  Once all of that is done, we’ll be ready to issue checks on June 1, which is the earliest date possible because of how the law is written about the 60-day wait period.”

The financial assistance package was approved earlier in April to help businesses located in Gonzales that have been affected by the coronavirus. Businesses can apply to receive $1,500 per “FTE Unit” or “full time equivalent” with the maximum cap of $12,000.
