COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Gonzales County

As of Tuesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gonzales County has risen to 185.

That includes the reporting of six new cases over the weekend. Three of the cases are in Waelder, two are in Gonzales and the sixth is in the Harwood area. Of those, one has been hospitalized.

The number of recoveries also continues to climb. The county posts a chart each Monday and Thursday. After posting the chart on Monday showing 147 recoveries, seven more were reported bringing the total to 154.

The number of cases locally and statewide have been expected to rise as Gov. Greg Abbott continues the process of reopening the economy. The state has entered Phase III and restaurants and bars can now operate at 75% capacity. Mayors and other elected officials in large cities and counties in Texas are concerned about the spike in reported cases and hospitalizations following the Memorial Day weekend and have asked for permission to require facial coverings for people out in the public. As of press time there has been no response from the governor’s office.
