GONZALES — The rodeo is still underway as cowboys and cowgirls are fighting for top spots. Gonzales County’s two cowgirls have had some success in the first go and are looking to improve on their scores for the second go.

Gonzales’ Sadie Thibodeaux had a busy Monday when she competed in girls’ goat tying, pole ending and ribbon roping. On Tuesday she was in barrel racing and girls’ breakaway. Meanwhile, Harwood’s Kyla Stamps also had a hand in girls’ goat tying as well as team roping on Tuesday.

In girls’ goat tying, Thibodeaux was timed at 9.17 seconds, good for 20th. Stamps had a time of 15.39 seconds. Taking top spots in the first go were Needville’s Makenna Shook at 6.95 seconds. Below her were Huntsville’s Lacy Bruening at 7.16 seconds and Hereford’s Madalyn Richards at 7.26 seconds.

Thibodeaux got her top-10 spot in pole bending when she finished right at 10th with her time of 21.152 seconds. She was barely edged out by Clarendon’s Jade Benson who was timed at 21.115. taking top spots were Bellville’s Jayci Byler at 20.14, Utopia’s Madison Outhier at 20.496 and Welch’s Rose Small at 20.615.

In barrel racing, Thibodeaux had a time of 17.742. Hungerford’s Reagan Goudeau took first at 16.326. Behind her were Byler at 16.336 and Benson at 16.503.

Thibodeaux also took 32nd in the girls’ breakaway with her time of 13.73 seconds. Sabinal’s Rylee Dodson took first at 2.84. Weimar’s Kennedy Koehn was behind at 3.13 and Canyon’s Gracie Tucker at 3.2. Thibodeaux would no-time ribbon roping with Alice’s Tres Reynolds III.

Stamps also no-timed an event, team roping, with Bastrop’s Thres Jarosek.

The second-go rolled on and Thibodeaux finished girls’ breakaway at 3.620 seconds. That time would have been a top-10 finish in the first go. She’ll know by the end of the round if it’s good enough for points. Meanwhile, Stamps no-timed in team roping on her second go.

Last night Stamps had another try at goat tying and Thibodeaux had another go in barrel racing but results were unavailable before press.
