Disappointed in poll question

Posted

Dear Editor:
I am writing to express my displeasure with the poll question you published in this week's paper.
The primary question is irrelevant, because the death of George Floyd and renaming the square
and removal of the statue are two unrelated items. The choices you gave for response are
especially troubling and offensive.
Certainly, I respect all life. Every individual allowed to be born on this earth bears the image of God, and is worthy of respect for that reason alone. But that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I also respect historical artifacts and resent the destruction of American history.
Your responses offer the choice of respecting life or respecting a statue more than life. That is not only an unfair choice, it is also deceitful. I am proud to say I respect all life AND all history, not just selected examples of each.
