NIXON – A Seguin man was arrested after police reported he had warrants for his arrest out of Wilson County, and that he committed disorderly conduct while confronting them for posting his mugshot on their Facebook page.

Nixon Police Chief Chris Aviles reported that on Thursday, April 9, officers responded to a report of disorderly conduct in the 100 block of E. 3rd St.

Police arrested Isaiah Garza, 22, of Seguin, on a charge of “language and resisting arrest search or transport,” according to NPD’s Facebook page. Chief Aviles said Garza was also booked on two warrants for his arrest out of Wilson County, but declined further comment on the matter, saying only that the case is still under investigation.

NPD’s Facebook post stated that, “Disorderly behavior is not condoned nor supported in a time of uncertainty. There are proper procedures and protocols in place to maintain transparency and the timely release of information. A failure or disconnect in communication is never conducive nor productive in meeting a common goal of compromise and transparency. Diplomacy must always be at the forefront of any communication.”

The post also said that NPD will continue to keep the public informed as timely events occur “during these uncertain times.”

For his part, Garza denied having any warrants for his arrest and added that he had done nothing wrong.

“I had just gotten a new truck, and they pulled me over for no reason,” Garza said. “They said I had warrants for my arrest, but I don’t. And I hadn’t done anything wrong [prior to] them arresting me.”

Garza claimed the arresting officers kept trying to push his face against a window on his truck, and that a video of the incident was posted on his Facebook page. During the video, Garza was seen narrating his side of the story while driving to NPD. He said NPD had unfairly and inaccurately posted his mugshot on their Facebook page, and wanted them to remove it.

The video showed Garza confronting police on the front lawn of the building before entering the building, all the while demanding the mugshot be taken down. Tensions quickly escalated, leading to Garza’s arrest. Garza was later released.

As of press time Wednesday, Wilson County had not returned calls to verify Garza’s warrants.
