Doing the right thing

Posted

Dear editor,

I am writing this letter because I saw a former Gonzales police officer and former sheriff’s deputy on the news for breaking the law. This former officer who was currently working for Leon County was escorted out in handcuffs by the Texas Rangers on charges of misuse of public information and was currently under investigation for an assault. This former GPD & GSD officer had an extraordinary amount of complaints against him from citizens of our county while he was employed here but for some reason was never investigated for his misconduct or reprimanded. He was allowed to transfer to another county despite numerous complaints lodged by citizens of our county. Once there he continued his unprofessional policing practices and got himself along with three other officers terminated from the force. Kudos to the Leon County Sheriff for doing the right thing and calling in the rangers to investigate and not cover up or ignore the illegal actions of this disgraced officer. On the other hand, if the rangers would’ve been called on him for what he was doing in Gonzales County he may have never got the chance to victimize the citizens of Leon County. I guess the sheriff of Leon County took his oath to protect the citizens of his county seriously. He didn’t ignore the numerous complaints filed by his citizens, he didn’t try to cover it up, he called in the rangers to investigate who turned the case over to the DA’s office for prosecution. Imagine if we had the same thing, a department that didn’t allow officers with numerous complaints to transfer to other counties and victimize its citizens.
