Dorothy Claire Vordenbaum Wilke McGinty

Dorothy McGinty of Luling, TX passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on March 9 after a fierce six-year battle with breast cancer at the age of 71.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 40 years, Roger W. Wilke, her father Clarence Vordenbaum, her mother Iola Eugenia Vordenbaum, her stepmother Stella Vordenbaum, and sister, Susie Dolezal.

Dorothy graduated from Gonzales High School class of 1965, where she was in Band, GAA, Student Counsel, and Methodist Youth Fellowship. She was also a majorette in the marching band and was voted class favorite and homecoming queen. She graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College, in San Marcos, Texas in 1972 with a BA in English with teacher certification. She served in the Seguin Independent School District for the next 34 years teaching 5th and 6th grade students and as a Title V Math Specialist. She absolutely loved her job and the teachers she worked with. One of her favorite honors was being nominated by SISD students for Who’s Who Among American Teachers, as well an SISD Hero teacher. Her greatest joy in life was spending quality time with her family and friends. She had true servant’s heart and enjoyed helping others at church, work, and in the community. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and dancing with the Sterling Silver Dance Team during San Antonio Spurs home games. We wish to thank all of you who journeyed with her during life and made it special.

She is survived by her husband of 8 years Kenneth R. McGinty of Gonzales; sons Russell Wilke and wife Angi of San Angelo; Brandt Wilke and wife Candy of Bellville; and daughter Gena Girardeau and husband James of Cedar Park. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren; Anna Claire and Grace Wilke of Bellville; Chloe Wilke of San Angelo; and Jack and Abby Girardeau of Cedar Park. Her sisters Dyna Dubose and husband Jack; Janie Carleton and husband William; Nancy Tielman and husband Soern; brother-in-law Victor Dolezal, and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved them all dearly.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home located at 906 St Paul St, in Gonzales, TX. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 14 at 10 a.m. in First United Methodist Church located at 426 St Paul St, Gonzales, TX, with Rev. Bob Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Hermann Sons Cemetery. Pallbearers: Tara DuBose, Mark DuBose, Sean DuBose, Bryce Carleton, Tim Carleton, Chad Denman, Frank Lee Atkinson, and Matt Atkinson.
