GONZALES — Authorities said a two-vehicle wreck occurred last week when the driver of an 18-wheeler fell asleep behind the wheel and veered into a pickup truck, sending its driver to the hospital.

The Texas Highway Patrol reported that at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, a 2017 GMC pickup driven by Adam Case, 38, of Lockhart, was headed southbound on Highway 183 near CR 246 when it was struck on its front left side by an approaching 2006 Peterbilt driven by Marshall Reeves, 34, of Edna.

Troopers said Reeves was headed northbound when he fell asleep behind the wheel and veered into oncoming traffic. Case told troopers he was unable to avoid the 18-wheeler because the road’s shoulder was blocked by a stationary vehicle. Case continued forward, causing the two vehicles to strike each other.

Reeves told authorities he was tired and fell asleep while driving. He was issued a citation for failure to drive in a single lane.

Case was taken to Gonzales Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
