Drug busts jail two locals

GONZALES – Two men were arrested after authorities conducted drug raids that led to the discovery of narcotics in both men's residences.

On March 15, the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office and Gonzales Police Department executed two search warrants in Gonzales County, Sheriff Matt Atkinson reported. Narcotics officers from both agencies worked together and combined information that led to the arrests of the two men.

One man, identified as Tony Castillo, is reported to have a lengthy background for trafficking narcotics. He was arrested during one of the warrants which was executed in the 3000 block of Highway 97E. Castillo was arrested and charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 (cocaine), a third degree felony, and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor. Castillo’s bond was set at $11,000.

Authorities also arrested David Cantu Jr., who was already on probation for possession of marijuana, was arrested during the execution of the second search warrant in the 900 block of Pecan St., and charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 (cocaine), a third degree felony, possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 3 (hydrocodone), a state jail felony, and possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor

Cantu was also charged with abandonment and endangerment, a state jail felony. Cantu’s bond was set at $9,000.
