Dwayne Anthony “Skinny” Malatek

Dwayne Anthony “Skinny” Malatek, 48, of Cost, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016. He was born Aug. 28, 1967 in New Braunfels, the son of Edmund and Paulette Fry Malatek. He was a graduate of Gonzales High School and a member of St. James Catholic Church.

Dwayne worked for South Cross Energy in West Texas and later in Victoria for over 10 years. He had previously worked with GVEC and the Texas Department of Transportation in Gonzales.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting along with dominoes and barbequing. He was a skilled welder and woodworker and enjoyed building projects. Most of all he treasured time spent with his daughters and his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Pops.”

He is survived by his mother, Paulette Malatek of Cost; daughters, Erica Renee Malatek Gonzalez and Michaela Caitlin Malatek, both of Gonzales; grandchildren, Conrad James and Isabelle Rose; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Michael “Skinny” Malatek.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with the Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at the Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include Robert Rodriguez, Jeff Victor, Richard Ayala Jr., Don Lonis, Dennis Jahns and Glen Glass. Honorary pallbearers include Ken Dubose and Rafael Gonzalez. Arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, 906 St. Paul, Gonzales.
