Early voting for Gonzales city council starts Monday

GONZALES — The eagerly awaited annual municipal elections for the City of Gonzales are almost underway. For those not interested in waiting two more weeks to exercise their democratically protected right on the actual election day of May 5, early voting begins Monday for the hottest ticket in town.

The election features two council races that are at the end of their three-year terms. Place 1 will feature incumbent councilman Gary A. Schroeder gunning for re-election. He is facing local businessman Mike Hanson. Place 2 has incumbent councilman Tommy G. Schurig squaring off against local rancher Jimmy Kelly.

Early voting takes place in council chambers at City Hall. Residents may vote in person from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 23-27 and again from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on April 30-May 1. On Election Day May 5, voters will shift to a different location at Gonzales North Avenue Intermediate School at 1032 St. Joseph St. Times for that day are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Voters are required to bring a form of photo identification to the polls in order to cast their ballot.

And for those wishing to vote by mail, applications for those ballots must be received at City Hall no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24.
