Edith Mae Hester, 80, of Gonzales, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019. She was born January 5, 1939 in Bastrop, the daughter of J.T. and Bertha Mae DeLoach. She was a graduate of Gonzales High School and attended Nixon-Clay Business College in Austin. She married Winson Elvin Hester on August 4, 1972 in Gonzales. She worked for the Gonzales Independent School District for over 30 years as a library/teacher’s aide. She later retired from Wal-Mart after 25 years of service. Edith had a great work ethic and held two or three jobs at a time. She loved arts and crafts and tending her flowers and garden. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters: Debbie Malatek and husband David of Gonzales, Diann Taylor of Gonzales and Rona Hester Beck and husband Glenn of Pflugerville; sons: Arlon Hester of Euless and David Roy Gerloff of Austin; brother Gordon DeLoach and wife Mary of Victoria; grandchildren: Denise Fortenberry, Tiffany Malatek, Kyle Hester, Brittaney Taylor, Carly Hester and Travus Locke; great-grandchildren: Abrina Hester, Seth Brzozowski and Ryland Lowe. Also surviving is her very special friend and neighbor Nancy Zuniga. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, August 16. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow at Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include Brett Johnson, Kyle Hester, David Malatek, Gary DeLoach, Travus Locke and Michael Mariscal. Honorary pallbearers are Lynn Mauldin and Seth Brzozowski. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, Gonzales.
