Elinor was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 26, 1930 to Erwin Louis and Lillie Emilie (Jenner) Wehe. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was baptized at Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas on August 24, 1930 by Rev. Marcus Rieke and confirmed there on April 18, 1943 by Rev. John Scherzer.
Elinor started her service to the Lord early in life by playing the piano for Sunday School at age 12. After she learned to play the violin, her mother had her entertain folks in the nursing home. Elinor graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1948 where she was a member of the Brackenridge Eagle Purple Jackets drill team. She continued her education at Texas Lutheran College majoring in Elementary Education where she would meet her husband, Don, at the dinner table. After graduating from Texas Lutheran in 1952, she taught at West End Elementary in Industry, Texas until her marriage to Don on Sept. 5, 1954 at Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas with Rev. J. Edward Marshall officiating.
Don was in his final year of seminary at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa when they married. During that year she taught at the Riverview Rural School at St. Donatus, Iowa. Just a couple of weeks after Don's ordination into the ministry, they welcomed their first daughter and Elinor began her life as a mother. This certainly kept her quite busy as she juggled mothering six children, being the church musician, church secretary, Vacation Bible School Director, choir director, member of the ladies' church organizations and the list goes on and on!
Elinor often used her special brand of sarcastic humor to befriend and care for her children, friends, and parishioners. She was always the supportive Pastor's wife and life coach to her children. She was an avid reader and patient listener. Elinor had many talents some of which she retained even into her last days when dementia had set in. She was able to sing by memory all the verses of many hymns and spell and define almost any word. "Mrs. V." as she was often called by her students loved, loved, loved children and admired them wherever she went. This, of course, included her own dear grandchildren whom she enjoyed playing with and visiting whenever possible.
She will be sorely missed by her survivors which include her loving husband of 63 years, Rev. Don D. Vlasak; children, Dr. Gloria Joyce Haug and husband Darrell, Dr. Mark Charles Vlasak and wife Camille, Donna Louise Vlasak, R.N., F.N.P. and spouse Cynthia Hinojosa, Dr. Janice Emelia Weinman Seider and husband Kevin, Dr. Marie Elaine Vlasak and husband Dr. Thang Ngoc Pham, and James Louis Vlasak and wife Jodi; grandchildren, David Aaron Haug and wife Kelli, Erin Lindsey Vlasak, Lauren Michelle Haug Lys and husband Jonathan, Logan Douglas Vlasak, Connor Van Vlasak, Janelle Brooke Weinman, Joshua Lance Vlasak, Kathryn Marie Ngoc Pham, Johanna Leigh Vlasak, and Matthew Victor Ngoc Pham; great-grandchildren, Micah Gilek Haug, Jonah Edward Lys, and Jacey Alexandria Haug; sister, Charlene Foerster and husband Dr. Harold Foerster; brother-in-law, Lanny Vlasak and wife Margie; four nieces; two nephews; and numerous other loving family members and many friends.
