Future bright for Apache golf

GONZALES — Gonzales took top spots in the District 26-4A golf tournament at Independence Park as the boys’ took third while the girls’ won the nine-course tournament.

Leading the way for the Lady Apaches was Kiley Allen who shot a tournament-high 42 strokes. Second medalist was her teammate Ashlynn Stewart at 57 while Sam Barnick and Hope West both tied for third medalist at 58. Right behind was Bre Wolff at 59 and Abby Hicks at 61. The team totaled 216 strokes, beating out Cuero at 239 and Navarro at 242. Yoakum only fielded three players.

At the boys’ tournament, the Apaches’ top golfer was Mason Richter who was first medalist with his score of 38. Behind him were Jaydyn Lookabill at 52, Brayden Watson at 54, Mark Burek at 61, Kobe Schwuasch at 64, Logan Cautrell at 68 and Hunter Brown at 68.

The team took third with their total of 205. They were bested by Navarro’s purple team who won the tournament with 195 strokes. Cuero’s green team took second at 201. The Apaches beating out Navarro’s gold squad of 218, Cuero’s white team at 249 and Yoakum at 250.
