George H. Smith

George H. Smith was born Dec. 6, 1924 in Gonzales, Texas to the parents of James Smith and Georgie Harper Smith. He attended public schools. He joined the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. He was a world War II veteran.

He was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He was a member of the gospel choir and served as treasurer. In 1982 he was ordained as a deacon.

On May 6, 1947 he united in marriage to Juanita M. Lewis of Gonzales, Texas. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. To this union, they were blessed with five children, Dorothy R. Bostic, Shirley J. Howard, George A. Smith, Deborah M. Johnson.

George worked for many years at Walter Schultz, Allen Chevrolet, John Whitt and Quality Chevrolet. He retired as a detailer dealer transfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Smith, Georgie Harper Smith, wife; Juanita M. Smith, one son: Willie Ray Smith, two sisters; Ruby Marshall and Gertrude Lemons, eight brothers; O.B. Hopskins Sr., Raymond Smith Sr., James Smith, Willie Smith, Dave Smith, Virgil Smith, Steve Smith Sr., and Fred Smith Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, four children; Dorothy Bostic, Shirley Howard, George A. Smith all of Austin, Texas, and Deborah Johnson (Jimmie) of Gonzales, Texas, eight grandchildren; Jabbar Bostic, Landon Rashad Smith, Braylon Smith, Thomas Anquiano, Tyrell L. Johnson, Shirnitra Clark (Michael), Kristal Howard, and LaTonya Coby, 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends
