George Martinius Martinsen Jr., 86, of Shiner, Texas passed away on Sunday, March 22, at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin, Texas.

Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held on Thursday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas with Father Bryan Heyer officiating. Interment will follow at Shiner Catholic Cemetery in Shiner, Texas. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 25 at Buffington Funeral Home from 5-6 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel.

George was born on Aug. 21, 1933, in Houston, Texas. He was the son of George Sr. and Lucille (Lund) Martinsen. George joined the US Navy and served on the U.S.S Noble from 1950 to 1954 during which time, he received many medals. He served in the US naval reserves from 1954 until 1961. He returned home and married Nancy Coons on Sept. 10, 1955. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He and Nancy were always together, and when Nancy’s health failed and she needed 24 hour care, George would have his meals at the nursing home with Nancy. George was a member of the V.F.W. He was also a four-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very active within the Knights of Columbus. He was always at the Friday Morning Mass with the Shiner Catholic School Children.

George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nancy, two daughters; Regina Dick and her husband, Richard of the Woodlands, Texas, Ramona Persons of Mandeville, Louisiana, two sons; Hollis Martinsen and his wife, Patricia of Pearland, Texas, Ron Martinsen and his wife, MoonHee of Renton, Washington, 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; George Sr. and Lucille Martinsen, two sons; Gerald Martinsen, George Martinsen III, one brother; Ronald Martinsen, and one sister; Bettie Marie Hutchinson.
