GONZALES — A local man faces up to life in prison after he was convicted of six counts of aggravated assault on a child last week.

First Assistant County Attorney Keri Miller said that on Sept. 18, a jury was selected in the State of Texas v. Zachary Gidcumb in the 25th Judicial District Court, with Judge William D. Old III, presiding. The defendant was represented by Richard “Trey” Hicks III.

The testimony established that the defendant sexually abused three victims between the ages of four and seven years old. The evidence also established the defendant had previously sexually abused a young child.

On Sept. 21, the jury found the defendant guilty of six counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Miller said.

Gidcumb elected for Judge Old to assess his punishment. The defendant’s sentencing hearing is set for Nov. 17, and he faces up to life imprisonment.

“The victims in the case showed incredible courage and bravery and were instrumental in ensuring that this defendant could not harm any future children. The jury sent a clear and swift message that child sexual abuse will not be tolerated in Gonzales County,” Miller noted.
