GISD reports 10 new COVID-19 cases in district Friday

Gonzales Independent School District shared a statement to its Facebook page on Friday, Jan. 8 stating that it had learned of 10 new cases of COVID-19 among staff and students. This brings the total number of active cases of COVID-19 within GISD to 21 as of that date.
 
Here is the statement which was shared to the GISD Faceboook page:
 
"GISD has learned of seven students and three staff members who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Of the seven students, five are high school students. One of the students was last on campus on Jan .7. The other four students have not been on campus. The other student is a Gonzales Primary Academy student who was last on campus today, Jan. 8. The last student is a Gonzales Junior High student who has not been on campus.
Of the three staff members who tested positive, two are from Gonzales High School and have not been on campus. The other staff member is from Gonzales Junior High School and was last on campus on Wednesday, Jan. 6. The district is getting in touch with those who came into "close contact" with these individuals.
As you may know, we are not allowed to share any additional information regarding health conditions of staff and students. Please note GISD is working diligently to ensure safety precautions are taken to keep facilities disinfected and sanitized. We cannot stress enough the importance of keeping your child are home if they are ill, have been exposed or have been tested and awaiting results for COVID-19. Please notify your campus office and campus nurse of any health information. Thank you!"
