The Gonzales Apaches boys and girls basketball teams had historic seasons this year, with both teams reaching the area round of the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. On their way to the postseason, the Lady Apaches finished the season second place in District 30-4A. The boys team finished third.
On the girls side, Devon Williams was named District 30-4A MVP alongside Navarro’s Tatum Harborth and La Vernia’s Helana Chadwick. Sam Barnick was named the district’s defensive player of the year with Cuero’s Ibree Coe. Named to the first team was Hailey Riojas. Hayley Sample and Jiseala “Chella” Longoria were named to the second team. Alexzandria “Ali” Rocha, LeAnndrea “Chu Chu” McCarty and Madison “Madi” Pirkle were honorably mentioned.
On the boys side, Jaydyn Lookabill was named the district’s defensive MVP. Named to the first team was Will Knox and Xavier Aguayo. Named to the second team was Diego Diaz de Leon. Brady Barfield was honorably mentioned.
