Gonzales City Council approves fall, spring events

GONZALES – With fall just on the horizon, the annual Gonzales First Shot Cook-off event and Gonzales Junior High Athletics Color Run/Walk are looming in the not-so-distant future. Gonzales City Council approved the First Shot Cook-off to be held at JB Wells Park, the weekend of Sept. 15 through 17. They also approved the 5k Color Run/Walk to take place in downtown Gonzales on Sept. 16.

Council also approved the annual Happy Fall Y'all children's event, to be held on October 21.

Spring has not sprung, but when it does, downtown Gonzales will host two more events. Council approved the Gonzales County Relay for Life Paint Your World Purple Color Run, on April 28; and the annual Relay for Life event, on May 5.

Happy Fall Y'all and the Relay for Life Relay will happen on Confederate Square. Both Color Run/Walk events will happen at the corner of St. Paul and St. Lawrence Streets.

In years past the run/walk events have been staged on St. Lawrence Street, between Gonzales Fire Department and Gonzales Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Connie Kacir asked council to approve the evens with an amendment moving them to the corner, so the events would not impede regular fire department operations.
