GONZALES – The Board of Directors of the Gonzales County Health Foundation approved a donation in the amount of $1.5 million to the Gonzales Healthcare System’s Thrive Healthplex. The new facility, slated for an opening day in March is projected to be the quintessential hotspot for total body wellbeing.

The facility boasts a multi-lane 25-meter lap pool, a state-of-the-art kitchen for occupational therapy and healthy cooking classes, a coffee and juice bar, a workout facility, an indoor walking track, a child development and care center, a conference center, and many medical offices, including the Gonzales County Health Foundation Surgical Suite, named after the foundation's generous donation, which will house a cardiologist, a general surgeon and an orthopedic surgeon.

After presenting their donation, members of The Gonzales County Health Foundation, donors – including Bob Young who donated $300,000 through the Rocky Young Foundation to put in the lap pool, members of hospital staff and community members toured the facility, guided by Thrive Director Dewey Smith.

The Gonzales County Health Foundation was established in 1983 with the leadership of Dr. Bryan Denman to assist the hospital district in providing quality healthcare to Gonzales County residents. Dr. Walter A. Sievers contributed several millions of dollars and part of his life estate to the Foundation to ensure that Gonzales County residents had quality healthcare facilities for years to come. A portion of those funds were earmarked for the Sievers Medical Clinic. Walter and Sue Traeger also donated to the Foundation as well.

The Gonzales County Health Foundation Board of Directors manages the assets of the Health Foundation. The Board is comprised of President Sue Ortman, Vice-President John Mohrmann, Treasurer Darren Schauer, Secretary Dr. Terry Eska, and members Ricky Lester, Noel Lindemann, Greg McClain, Bryan Denman, Mark Lindemann, Tim Markham, Greg Tieken and Chuck Norris.
